Revealed!!! Meet JIHADI JOHN – The World’s most wanted man

First picture of the face of the younger, normal, happy looking schoolboy who has now turned into the reviled, disgusting ISIS executioner, Jihadi John, who has publicly beheaded many people and now the face of ISIS.

Originally born in Kuwait before moving to UK at 6, his name is Mohammed Emwazi. He embraced British life, playing football in the affluent streets of West London while supporting Manchester United. Neighbours recalled a polite, quietly spoken boy who was studious at his Church of England school, where he was the only Muslim pupil in his class.

The son of a Kuwaiti minicab driver, young Emwazi arrived in Britain speaking only a few words of English, and appeared more interested in football than in Islam. It was only after he won a place studying computing at the University of Westminster that his behaviour began to change.

He was on a UK terror watch list, but managed to flee to Syria in 2012. Now, he’s known around the world as the notorious Islamic State murderer who has shocked the world with his bloodlust.

The university has since been linked with several proponents of radical Islam, and Emwazi appeared to have fallen under their sway.

He began attending different mosques and was known to associate with Bilal el-Berjawi, who was killed by a drone strike in Somalia three years ago.
In August 2009, after his graduation, Emwazi flew to Tanzania in East Africa with friends and told authorities they were going on a wildlife safari.
But the group was refused entry and put on a plane to the Netherlands, where Emwazi later claimed he was questioned by an MI5 agent called Nick.

The British officer accused him of planning to travel to Somalia to join the militant group Al Shabaab, he said, and said MI5 had been watching him. Emwazi denied the accusation – bragging that he would not take a designer Rocawear sweater in his luggage if he was planning to join Somalian rebels.

In emails to the campaign group Cage, Emwazi said: ‘He [Nick] knew everything about me; where I lived, what I did, the people I hanged around with.’

‘Nick’ then tried to recruit the 21-year-old, Emwazi claimed, and threatened him when he refused to cooperate.
Emwazi said the officer told him: ‘You’re going to have a lot of trouble…You’re going to be known…You’re going to be followed…Life will be harder for you.’
On his return to Britain, Emwazi said his family told him they had been ‘visited’, and he claimed a woman he had been planning to marry broke off their engagement because her family had also been contacted and were scared.

According to Emwazi, his family then began planning for him to travel to Kuwait to get him away from the ‘harassment’ he had suffered in Britain and he went to work for a computer programming company in the emirate.

In his account to Cage, he said security officers continued to visit his family and he decided to make a ‘new life’ in Kuwait, where he was once again planning to marry.
But following a visit back to Britain in 2010 he said he was stopped at Heathrow Airport and barred from flying back to Kuwait, and claimed that he was interrogated by an aggressive officer who threw him against a wall, grabbed his beard and strangled him.
Emwazi made an official complaint to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, saying he had been assaulted by the officer.
But court documents show he was also arrested himself later that year and charged with possessing five stolen bicycles, although he was later acquitted at court.

Incensed by the decision to stop him returning to Kuwait, Emwazi told Cage he felt ‘like a prisoner’ in London.
He said he was ‘a person imprisoned and controlled by security service men, stopping me from living my new life in my birthplace and country, Kuwait.’

Friends told the Washington Post he was already talking wildly about travelling to Syria, where the uprising against Bashar al Assad was beginning in earnest.

But he also applied for work in Saudi Arabia, taking a course to teach English and applying for work at language centres in the kingdom.
Rejected by those, his father suggested he change his name in a bid to avoid any block from British authorities, and Cage said he changed his name by deed poll in 2013 to become Mohammed al-Ayan.

He made one more attempt to fly back to Kuwait that year but was barred from leaving Britain again and disappeared from his parents’ home a week later.
His parents reported him missing after three days but claimed it was four months before police arrived at their home and said they had information he was in Syria.

His father, 51, told police they were wrong and that his son was in Turkey helping refugees from Syria, and the family are said to continue to deny that he is the masked IS executioner.
Meanwhile, two British trainee medics who met Jihadi John in Syria said he had a fearless ‘nothing to lose’ attitude and was always ready for war.
Speaking anonymously to ITV, they said the killer was unmarried and was probably picked for the executioner poster boy role because of the way he handled difficult situations.

One of them said: ‘He seems like someone with not a lot to lose. There has been incidents where he has run into checkpoints and he dealt with people in a careless, gung-ho manner with disregard for his own safety.

NYSC member commits suicide over girlfriend via@ameborepublik

The body of a 26-year-old National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, member, identified as Ernest, was, Wednesday, recovered from his one room apartment after he reportedly took a poisonous substance.

Reports indicated that the young man, who was in love with a fellow NYSC member, Chioma Okewuru, went berserk when the girl came back from her village over the weekend with a ring from a man she had promised to marry.

Ernest, who is from Edo State and a graduate of the University of Benin, was posted to Cross River State in October, where he met and fell in love with Chioma, and both were serving in Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha 1 in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross Rivers State.

Mr. Noah Ntuen, Acting Divisional Police Officer for Obubra told Vanguard on phone: “The girl had told the guy that she would not marry him, but that they could be friends. So when she came back from home last weekend and showed him the ring her husband-to-be gave her, the young man became furious.

“On Wednesday, the situation became worse and at about 7pm, he locked himself in the room and took some poisonous substances.”

A source in the school said: “They met at the NYSC Orientation Camp at Abrekpe-Ebokpo and as luck would have it, they were both posted to the same school where they had a relationship going.

“He had the hope the whole thing would end in marriage, but Chioma already had another person she wants to marry.”

Ntuen said the body had been deposited in the mortuary of Obubra General Hospital, while Chioma is with the police, where investigations on the circumstances surrounding the tragic death are in progress.

“What Buhari failed to tell his audience at Chatham house” – PDP SpokesMan

Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign group, Femi Fani-Kayode, has something to say about Gen. Buhari’s visit to Chatham house today. Read below…

“We wonder whether General Buhari told his foreign audience whilst he was in London how much he loves Boko Haram. We wonder whether he told his audience that he once said that he believed that an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the north and that the Boko Haram terrorists should be appeased, pampered, resettled and paid allowances. We wonder if he told them that he was once nominated by Boko Haram to be their spokesman and representative during proposed negotiations with the Federal Government”

“For now, all we can say is that it is truly pitiful that a former Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria believes that it is more important to win the hearts and minds of the British than it is to win the hearts and minds of the Nigerian people. General Buhari can run to any foreign country in the world to say anything that he likes but at the end of the day the decision as to who will lead Nigeria as from May 29th this year will be determined by no one else but the Nigerian people. The game is on here and not in London,” he said

Hakan Calhanoglu’s second half stunner rocked 10-man Atletico Madrid and gave Bayer Leverkusen a 1-0 first leg lead in the last-16 of the Champions League.
The Turkey international’s wonderful strike proved enough to separate the sides at the BayArena, with Karim Bellarabi instrumental in the build-up.
Leverkusen threatened in the first half and saw Emir Spahic denied on two occasions, but they were grateful to Bernd Leno for making two late saves to keep the score level.
Tiago was sent off for two bookable offences late on to heap more misery on Atletico, who failed to score for their second successive Champions League game.

Revealed ! NUC declares Ashia Buhari’s Certificate Fake

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has disclosed that, contrary to claims in some quarters, any certificate obtained from the Kaduna Satellite Campus of the Ambrose Alli University is fraudulent and a scam.

This is coming on the heels of her husband’s certificate scandal . Buhari had claimed his academic qualifications were with the military board but the military came forward to say he lied . Currently there are a couple of perjury cases against Buhari in courts.

Deputy Director Press of the NUC, Ibrahim Yakassai disclosed, this to The Nigerian Times when our reporter called to confirm the status of the institution and certificates earned from it.

He said: “It is fraudulent and a scam. There is no such thing like Ambrose Alli University, Kaduna Study Center. The NUC is not aware of such.”

The Nigerian Times recalls that the Daily Trust Newspaper in the story, ‘Now, Hajiya Aisha Buhari steps out’, published January 18, 2015 had reported that the beautiful wife of General Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had bagged a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (Kaduna satellite campus). She later proceeded, based on the same degree, to obtain a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Strategic Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.

The NUC in a directive in 2001, under former Executive Secretary Peter Okebukola to all Vice-Chancellors, had directed all university satellite campuses to be shut down. While most Universities complied, few others were adamant, leading to another directive by the present Executive Secretary Professor Julius Okojie, to re-affirm the initial directive that all universities in the country running external campuses (satellite campuses) be shut down.

A satellite campus, according to the NUC guidelines on which basis the illegal ones were closed down, “must not be more than 200 kilometres from the main campus,” “must not be located in a state outside the state in which the main campus is located,” “must have staff of the satellite campus directly or indirectly appointed by the main campus in line with laid down academic standards.”

According to Daily Trust, Mrs. Buhari enrolled in the undergraduate programme of the Ambrose Alli University and received lectures at its Leventis Building satellite campus, Kaduna.

The Newspaper also reported that she holds a National Certificate in Education (NCE) from the National Teachers Institute (NTI) alongside a Diploma in Beauty Therapy at the Carlton Institute of Beauty Therapy, Windsor, in the United Kingdom and a certificate course from the French Beauty School, Esthetique Academie Dubai. She is a member of the United Kingdom’s Vocational Training and Charitable Trust and the International Health and Beauty Council.

Speaking to The Nigerian Times, a former coordinator of one the satellite campuses of the university who asked to be anonymous, said while some campuses were able to insert records of some students of the satellite campuses into the general students’ records at the main campus, others were just issued certificates without recourse to the parent school.

He said while the certificates of those whose records where successfully entered into the school’s main record could claim some level of validity, the others remain invalid.

He said: “The campuses started in 1998 and were all officially closed in 2002.

“Some of the campuses at the earlier stages would get someone from the main campus in Ekpoma to invigilate the examinations and under some arrangements would then register the students’ particulars in the record of the university. After this, those certificates got a value of validity.

“However, after sometime some centers started issuing certificates to their students in the name of the parent university without any recourse to record keeping and so when employers or schools of post graduate studies contacted Ekpoma for verification, the records of most of them were not found. These developments finally led to the NUC’s hammer on those centers.”

Every effort to get responses from the Registrar of the University, Mr. Ojo Maliki and Public Relations Officer of the university, proved abortive. While mails where not responded to, calls from our reporter were treated with rude and evasive responses. A University officer, who craved anonymity, told this newspaper that Edo being an APC state, the authorities are extremely careful not to get caught in Nigeria’s fractious political party rivalries.

“Pres. Jonathan Misunderstood my Statements About Missing N30 Trillion” – Charles Soludo

Former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Charles Soludo is setting the record straight about his allegations that more than N30 trillion has been lost, stolen or unaccounted for under Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s watch in the last four years.

Soludo is expatiating on his claims in response to president Goodluck Jonathan‘s response on the matter, in which he stated that Soludo’s claims are illogical. Jonathan’s statement is contained in a ThisDay article titled, “Jonathan Replies Soludo over missing N30 trillion claim,” Premium Times reports.

In the article, Jonathan stated:

“Not too long ago I read in one of the papers, I think Vanguard, that former chief economic adviser to President Obasanjo who also went to become a CBN governor… Soludo is a professor and first class material. Yes, making a first class in economics, he is a brilliant person. His secondary school records are fantastic. So by all standards he is a brilliant person. So the Vanguard wrote that he accused Ngozi; that N30 trillion was stolen under the watch of Ngozi in four years,” the president said.

“Ngozi became a finance minister, let’s say from 2011 till date. From that time till now, our annual budget is between N4.3 trillion and N4.9 trillion. So even if you put all together, it is about 18 plus trillion naira, and not 30 trillion. The budget for these four years is less than N20 trillion, but Soludo said that under Ngozi’s watch they stole N30 trillion. This is in the papers, social media, stored in the clouds and will continue to be there. And when you type it in it will come out that during President Jonathan’s time they stole N30 trillion.”

Read Soludo’s response to Jonathan:

My attention has been drawn this morning to an article entitled: “Jonathan Replies Soludo over “missing N30 trillion” claim”— extracting from Mr. President’s interview as published by Thisday newspaper.

ThisDay quoted Mr. President as saying that “Soludo said that under Ngozi’s watch they stole N30 trillion” but that since the sum of the federal budget over the last four years was less than N30 trillion, such an amount could not have been “stolen”.

According to the President, “it is all political”. I had earlier stated that I would not make further comments on the issues until probably after the elections but since Mr. President has decided to join the fray, I am constrained to make a further brief clarification.

For me, President Jonathan is a gentleman and a friend but I have a fundamental disagreement on his management of the economy. On the issues at stake, I believe that the pressures of office and the hectic electioneering campaigns have not allowed him time to read my articles or that his staff have not explained the contents to him hence he totally missed the point in his comments. For the avoidance of doubt, let me clarify as follows:

1. In my article entitled “Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and the Missing Trillions”, I presented some rough calculations covering: oil theft, money that ought to accrue to stock of foreign reserves, unbudgeted oil subsidy payments, customs duty waivers, leakages through the self-financing government parastatals, unremitted sums by NNPC, etc.

I concluded that section of my article by noting that: “I have a long list but let me wait for now. I do not want to talk about other ‘black pots’ that impinge on national security. My estimate, Madam, is that probably more than N30 trillion has either been stolen or lost or unaccounted for or simply mismanaged under your watchful eyes in the past four years”.

It is evident that the monies I referred to are “off-budget”. These are monies that did not make it to the budget. I find it funny that the Government deliberately avoided the issues raised above but instead has sought to divert attention by focusing on the “federal budget”.

Let me state for the record that I believe that the amount of resources that are either stolen from the economy or out-rightly mismanaged by government far exceeds the federal budget per annum.

Ours is about a N100 trillion economy, and I will be shocked if the government pretends that it does not know that currently about 10% of the GDP falls into a ‘black hole’ on annual basis.

We have not added figures based on counterfactual analysis such as the cost to the aggregate economy of bad or misguided economic policy. For example, in today’s Thisday newspaper, a headline news reports that “Aliko Dangote, Africa’s Richest Man, Loses $7.8 Billion as Naira, Stocks Plunge” while reporting that “In dollar terms, the devaluation has knocked more than $40 billion off the value of Nigeria’s economy”. Of course, most people predicted that oil prices would soon fall but we were caught unprepared, and today, the parallel market exchange rate is N225 to the dollar.

Thus, the kind of analysis in today’s Thisday is just one little example of the kind of collateral damages–‘costs’ or ‘losses’– that mismanagement foists on the system. To repeat, my article did not focus on the federal budget: the mismanagement of the consumption budget and its unprecedented debt accumulation (with low value-for-money expenditures) are entirely different matters.

3. What I found particularly disconcerting as a Nigerian from the comments I read is the fixation to validation from the World Bank. According to Mr. President, “we asked the Minister how her colleagues at the World Bank saw the accusation”. I shook my head in disbelief. It is instructive that no one asked what Nigerians thought or ‘how Nigerians saw it’ but rather what was important to government was the impression of the World Bank. If this is the mind-set of our leaders, then ordinary citizens have real cause to worry.

Well, I have read several editorial comments of Nigerian media and they do not agree with the ‘impression’ of the World Bank official. I read a similar comment by a high government official stating that World Bank officials and CNN had told them that government was doing well and therefore who else could question them.

But neither the World Bank nor CNN conducts comprehensive independent surveys on the economy— they comment based on the data they are given— and their subjective “opinions” cannot substitute for hard facts.

The World Bank is not a statistical agency. I can provide a long list of countries that World Bank reports praised as ‘star performers’ and they slumped into deep crisis almost immediately after. Check out the World Bank and IMF reports on the US and other countries’ economies shortly before the unprecedented global financial and economic crisis in fifty years (the Great Recession of 2008/09).

Actually for many countries once they start getting such ‘praises’, then perceptive officials begin to worry. Nigeria is probably the only country where its government officials quote the World Bank while ignoring data from its own statistical agency!

A serious concern is that while government relies on external validation (opinion) as ‘proof’ of its performance, it is selective in the process—accepting the positive ones and disparaging the negative ones. Our recent exchanges illustrate the point. In my first article (26th January): “Buhari Vs Jonathan: Beyond the Elections”, I argued that “the economy seems to be on auto pilot, with confusion as to who is in charge, and government largely as a constraint.

There are no big ideas, and it is difficult to see where economic policy is headed to. My thesis is that the Nigerian economy, if properly managed, should have been growing at an annual rate of about 12% given the oil boom, and poverty and unemployment should have fallen dramatically over the last five years”. No one has credibly challenged the above, except what the Financial Times of London described as a “furious response by the Minister”. But, the influential Economist Magazine of London and New York Times agreed with us. According to the Economist editorial (7th February, 2015):

“… as Africa’s biggest economy stages its most important election since the restoration of civilian rule in 1999, and perhaps since the civil war four decades ago, Nigerians must pick between the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan, who has proved an utter failure, and the opposition leader, Muhammadu Buhari….

The single bright spot of his rule has been Nigeria’s economy, one of the world’s fastest-growing. Yet that is largely despite the government rather than because of it, and falling oil prices will temper the boom. The prosperity has not been broadly shared: under Mr Jonathan poverty has increased. Nigerians typically die eight years younger than their poorer neighbours in nearby Ghana”. I gave the Government an “F” grade on economic management, and the Economist described its performance as “utter failure”.

The Economist also basically agreed with me that the re-basing of the economy and its observed ‘growth’ have nothing to do with government policy. Again, government has not credibly challenged the above or is the Economist’s view also ‘all political ’? Government simply waved it off. My point is that if Government has to rely on the “impressions” of external bodies, then it should be consistent and comprehensive.

4. In conclusion, let me re-state that I firmly stand by my earlier statements. These are weighty statements which I weighed carefully before issuing. I appreciate that this is an election time and so attempts would be made to trivialize, or either play politics with, or divert attention from, them. In a serious society, we should have had a good debate on these matters as they could provide some of the building blocks in trying to pick the pieces after the elections.

Part of our citizen duty in a democracy is to raise such issues and demand for answers. In the meantime, I grant that our leaders are busy with campaigns but these issues won’t go away until we have a transparent resolution. Be assured that after the elections, we will be back with even more questions!

APC accuses Fani Kayode of organizing protest againts Buhari

Read APC press statement.

We have received information that Femi Fani Kayode has paid some boys to mobilize Nigerians in the UK to protest against Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday (26/02/2015) at Chatham House. This is to create a wrong signal that Nigerians are happy with President Goodluck Jonathan and probably embarrass Gen. Buhari before the international community. The bad light synergy was revealed by one is his agent, and we craving to ask why? Gen. Buhari is to present a lecture on the same day at Chatham House, London titled: “Prospects for Democratic Consolidation in Africa: Nigeria’s Transition”. We hereby urge Nigerians home and abroad to be red alerted of every antics of PDP and its nefarious agents. Femi Fani Kayode attitude is known to all. We cannot afford to keep quiet and let him play by his evil antics.

Need To Read What Elections Shift Did To The Party

Reports have started to emerged that the All Progressive Congress (APC) are alleged to be facing financial constraints due to the postponement of the 2015 general elections.

Punch reported that the party is now resolving for alternative cost effective means to generate money and also manage its lean budget.

Albeit, the APC has not yet admit to it, reports still suggest that it is in fact true as the party had adopted other less capital intensive campaign strategies to deal with the challenge.

It was also learnt that the campaign group of the had been running on “the goodwill of supporters that have been making donations in terms of logistics support and less of cash, to avoid falling a prey to anti-graft agencies.”

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, who is a member of the party’s Board of Trustees has, however, dismissed insinuations that the party had run into financial trouble.

He explained that contrary to insinuations in some quarters, the APC, unlike other political parties, had been transformed into a political movement.

He said: “The APC is not just a political party, it is a movement. That is why people are contributing and our strength is not in the amount of money that we have, our strength is in the number of Nigerians who want change. For as long as this desire is there, there will be change.”

Group to Buhari – Collect Your Result From Cambridge Before Returning to Nigeria

Move On Nigeria, a civic action group promoting good governance, democracy and the transformation agenda, has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to quit dodging issues and face squarely issues concerning the health and certificate of its presidential candidate and former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).

The group said Buhari’s qualification had always been an issue even within the military circle where his intellectual ability had always had a question mark.

“Buhari’s qualification will remain an issue until he comes clean on the matter. If Buhari will be willing to publicly declare his assets as he said he would, he should also be willing to publicly show his acclaimed certificate.

“So far, every independent inquiry with regards to Buhari’s qualification has returned negative, the onus now is on Buhari to ensure that he collects his original secondary certificate from University of Cambridge in United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria during his London trip in order to put rest to the controversy surrounding his academic qualification. Any cab in London can take him to Cambridge.”

The group which accused the APC of lying and deceiving Nigerians about Buhari’s health and qualification, urged the party’s leadership and Buhari’s new mentor, former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, to prevail on their candidate to collect his result from Cambridge before returning back to the country, insisting that Buhari did not possess secondary school certificate as he claimed in Form CF001 submitted to Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC).

Move on Nigeria, according to it, took the pain to make enquiries from WAEC office in Nigeria and the West Africa Regional Office, Accra, Ghana, where the authorities said with finality they have no information on the candidate.

Speaking through a signed statement which was made available to journalists in Lagos yesterday, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Clem Aguiyi, maintained that if Buhari failed to collect his controversial result from the University of Cambridge this time around, and a clean bill of health supporting he is fit to withstand the rigours of office if elected, he should voluntarily withdraw from the the race, urging Buhari to use the opportunity to shame his critics over the controversial school certificate by collecting it from University of Cambridge.

Aguiyi said: “We strongly believe Buhari does not possess school certificate as he claimed and may have risen to the rank of General in the army using the same deception but we want Nigerians to give him the benefit of the doubt by bringing the result from University of Cambridge that claimed to conduct the said examination during his London trip and the result must tally with the earlier Statement of Result released through online medium by the Provincial Secondary School in Katsina State.

“It is high time Buhari cleared the air and lay the controversy surrounding his school certificate to rest before it is too late. Nigerians are graciously waiting to see Buhari’s original result of 1962 and we want to tell Nigerians that the APC candidate was enlisted into the Nigeria Army on the basis of Principal’s recommendation letter not basis of Secondary School Certificate.

“Also, failure of Buhari to bring the result during this trip, it means, his acclaimed integrity is not complete and he should hide his face behind a rock as we know that integrity begins with personal matters before graduating into ultimately public matters,” Aguiyi said.

The group, which expressed deep concern about Buhari’s rumoured ill health, urged the North to wise up saying the North is again being taken for a ride. We insist it is in the best interest of the North to allow President Goodluck Jonathan complete the eight-year tenure for the South-south while the north takes its turn by 2019 when it would provide a sound, healthier and younger Northerner who will be less a divisive character and generally acceptable than Buhari whose antecedent and competence is nothing to cheer.”

GMB to speak in London on Thursday + Meets Tony Blair

A former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has confirmed that he held a private meeting with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari, in London on Saturday.

There has been speculations in Nigeria that a picture showing Messrs. Blair, Buhari and Governor Amosun as well as a former Kwara state governor, Bukola Saraki, was photoshopped.
Mr. Buhari’s campaign office had stated that the former head of state was in the U.K. on a working visit.
However, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state and supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, are claiming that Mr. Buhari is in the UK for medical treatment.

To buttress their claim, some of the critics claimed Mr. Blair was not in the U.K. on Saturday and could therefore not have met Mr. Buhari.

PREMIUM TIMES Monday contacted the office of Mr. Blair for confirmation and we got a response that the meeting actually held.

“Mr. Blair had a private meeting with General Muhammadu Buhari in London,” said Rianne Buter in an email response to PREMIUM TIMES’ inquiry.
Ms. Buter also said Mr. Blair “hopes to visit Nigeria shortly when he will see the President”.

Mr. Buhari’s campaign office also issued a statement saying the APC candidate “would hopefully give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, in London.”
Chatham House has now confirmed that Mr. Buhari will speak Thursday on the topic: “Prospects for Democratic Consolidation in Africa: Nigeria’s Transition”.

Details of the event as posted on the website of Chatham House also revealed that Mr. Buhari would speak for one hour between 10 and 11a.m. and the event would be chaired by Richard Gozney, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria between 2004 and 2007.

Chatham House encourages interested persons to send questions to Mr. Buhari via Twitter.
“Send questions for the speaker by using #CHAfrica on Twitter. A selection will be put to him during the event,” it said.

Reasons why we sleep with different men – UNILAG female student reveals via @ameborepublik

A message gotten from a lady who schools in University of Lagos, says she wants people to know the reason girls like her sleep around.

“Please sir, I just want to tell you that it’s not our fault that we go about servicing all kinds of men for the sake of money.”

Many guys do yahoo and armed robbery to survive but ladies can’t do all that and since we are aware that these men will always need women to enjoy their money with them, there is nothing bad if we make ourselves available for you men and we get paid for our professional services, Or can you people stay without a woman for one month?

We are just helping men with our body. Times are hard. My parents can’t raise enough money for my school fees and my accommodation in school, so how will I feed, buy clothes, make-up and look good like other girls if I don’t help my self?

Many ladies are doing it here in my school and even other schools. It is condition that caused it. People should understand that everything has changed!

Few stories have generated heat and divided opinion than the death of former Citi FM sales executive Nana Kofi Ofori Atta aka Pinto and the role or otherwise wife Diana Owusu had in his death.

As is the case Pinto has been laid to rest but sadly the issues won’t just sleep nor die. From what I gather Pinto was a damn good sales executive who could sell anything for value and for former Citi FM sports editor Gary Al-Smith to attest to Pinto’s role in securing sponsorship for the sports shows even when he did not see the potential demonstrates Pinto’s astuteness and eye for opportunities.
It so happens that a man ought to settle, find a desirable woman, marry and start raising a family at a point so Pinto bearing these in mind secured the love of Diana Owusu and married life begun.

I should state that I knew neither Pinto nor Diana till the tapes leaked and so my views on the Pinto-Diana affair are deduced from the available information and materials I have been privy to.

Humans are mere mortals lacking the ability to know tomorrow but I dare say the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Ofori Atta was a troubled one from the start and though they meant well and hoped to bring the best in each other the experiment failed greatly.

For one, there was little trust, for both Pinto and Diana to serve as spies taping each other’s conversations involving third parties exposed the frailty of the union and I dare say even US and Russian spies would be envious of their taping abilities.

I don t know the sexual prowess of Diana but what is curious is that she appears to be a nympho and Pinto sadly could simply not match up. “How would you want it today, the c*nt or anal”. Diana could be heard asking one of her sex mates. For a married woman to ask this from a man other than her husband speaks volumes about the low esteem she holds the sacred vows.

Still on Diana’s sex appetite, exchanges with another sex partner involving 7000 cedis exposed another trait of the lady as one offering sex for money.

To cultivate the student on the tape and mange to entice her to engage Pinto sexually tells a tale of one who is no novice to this line of work and shows one who can use blackmail to terrific effect.

For a wife not to be in attendance at her husband’s funeral and burial sums up the twisted state of affairs.
I cannot tell if Diana indeed poisoned Pinto’s ‘waakye’ as forensic evidence has to be produced but she indeed needs to offer explanation as to why she engaged in sexual bouts outside the confines of marriage.

On Pinto’s part surely the signs of infidelity must have been there but alas when a man loves with a passion he is blinded to many faults. It appears Pinto knew the reputation of Diana yet forged ahead perhaps in the hope that married life would sober her, it failed.

Another point worth noting is that the men Diana engaged in the sexual bouts with appear to have known Pinto in some capacity or might have even been friends of his. For most men, this is a constant threat of perceived friends visiting when at home or not.

For Pinto to have engaged the student in a sexual episode indicated a lapse in resolve and subsequent exchange with the said lady showed Pinto’s regret and disinterest in the affair.
Many have proffered that Pinto dug his grave the moment he married Diana, procured his casket when he came across her inconsistent ways yet refused to dissolve the marriage and eventually laid in it when he exposed his food to her despite their often bitter quarrels. ‘Had I known’ it is said lives in the past tense.
A man ought to have the restraint not to beat a woman yet Diana’s deeds might have wore off any clothe of tolerance, restraint, patience and endurance Pinto had.

For such a gifted man to die in such manner was most unfortunate, regrettable even considering the fact that families play an integral role in our marriages. I am innocent of the intermediary role family members played to ensure sanity and even though Allah’s will be done always, many reckon had Pinto dissolved the union so Diana could have the liberty to pursue her escapades, he could be here with us but joy can be taken in the fact that at 31 years Pinto lived a full, life and offered himself in the service of others.

Amid the battle online one unique thing stood out that Diana’s perceived character was not used to damn a whole ethnic group as has been the case in other cases. Perhaps it has sunk in finally that in every ethnic group, religion, race or creed there abounds good and rot and using one rot to castigate a whole is often narrow.

I am innocent of the nature of our crime labs and expertise in handling homicide cases but if the CSI series and results are anything to go by in Ghana, perhaps the full facts of this case could be offered to serve as a guide for future conduct.
To have God in one’s live is critical to seeking truth and a desire to serve him earnestly but a Godless life knows no boundary. It is why a son can desire his mother, a father his daughter and for some even animals. May a desire to know God be on our hearts and may he bless our efforts.

That Ghana is surrounded by French colonized states is a fact That the situation presents an opportunity and a challenge is quite obvious to many.
Little wonder then that despite efforts at teaching Ghanian folks French at the Primary, JHS, SHS and even tertiary levels, there is little to show for it. For the most part the students undertaking the language course seize to even attempt to interact in Francais right after classes, in effect an attempt is only made on the few times the class comes up say for an hour or two.

Companies are now keen to have workers who at least have a working language of other languages and it’s is in this vein that Ghanians are striving to possess such prowess especially in the hospitality as well as oil and gas industries not to talk of government sectors.

In this regard Cameroon (English and French are both official languages) leads the pack regarding Africa as most of its citizens speak both French and English languages well and having been at Repere can attest to their prowess in the speaking and comprehension of both French and English languages.

Food binds people together than other items and the Repere restaurant is uniquely affording citizens from Ivory Coast, Togo, Gabon, Senegal, Guinea, Burkina Faso as well as Cameroon and folks from Ghana the chance to mingle, wine, dine, dance and exchange languages all in an atmosphere of friendship and love.
With the motto “where taste and health settle their differences”, Repere owner Romeo R. Djikah explains after visiting Ghana in 1998 as a tourist he eventually settled in the country in 2008 and then hit upon the idea with his wife (Josla Baud) to start up Repere restaurant to expose Ghanaians to Cameroonian and other African dishes.
“I resigned from Alliance Francais to start the venture but securing land was stressful till a friend introduced us to our current landlord who agreed for us to start the restaurant”.
“Losses were being incurred in the early years till a group of women in an association engaged the restaurant to host their anniversary; there’s been no turning back.” Mr. Romeo Djikah noted.

According to Mr. Djikah although Repere is open to all persons about 70% of its clientele base is made up of tertiary students all over Africa in search of education in Ghana. He said interactions between the various nationals has led to enlightenment as various nationals see the similarities and varieties regarding meal, wine, language and culture of the continent.
Meals served at Repere include jollof rice and chicken sauce, grilled chicken and atieke, grilled chicken and aloco, grilled chicken and manioc, fried plantain and tilapia with sauce, noodles with potatoe chips and grilled chicken, steamed chicken in vegetable sauce with rice or potatoes and others.
Aside the meals served, another attraction of Repere is the live band music offered and the live telecast of football matches be it from the EPL, Serie A, Bundesliga or the First Capital Plus local league.

Located at Kotobabi Down- House Number 13 behind the Modex Filling station, CEO Romeo Djikah aspires to open other outlets across Accra and the regions serving healthy yet tasty meals to patrons.

Open to the public from Monday to Sunday from 11am to midnight,

Repere could be reached on +233(0)302200066 / 0264431053 / 0272582295.

Aisha Buhari Comments About Her Husband’s Health Status

For the first time since the heated controversy started about the health status of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammadu Buhari, his wife, Aisha Buhari has decided to clear the air about her husband’s health status.

Speaking with The Guardian at the Westminster Plaza Hotel, London on Saturday night, after APC team’s interactive reception with Nigerians in the diaspora, Aisha revealed that her husband is hale and hearty.

She boldly laughed at reports making round that her husband is ill and was in London for health reasons.
When asked if her husband was being hospitalized, she replied: “He’s home, well and sound.

“No, he’s just come here to rest. He’s just here to have a rest, at least few days rest, before he goes back to the business.”

It would be recalled that last week rumours emerged over Buhari’s visit to London was for health reasons.

Control everything with the tap of a button

Your digital life is littered with apps.
There are social networks and messaging services, each with their own websites and mobile apps. Then there are stand-alone apps that control “smart” devices — thermostats, lightbulbs, fitness trackers, scales — which have only just starting trickling into our homes.
One company called IFTTT has been working on automation tools that make it easier for all those apps and gadgets to work together. Now it’s reaching out to the non-technical crowd with a new trio of dead-simple apps.

The name stands for “If This Then That,” a phrase that describes exactly how it works: If you post a photo to Facebook, then save it to Dropbox. Called recipes, you can create your own or choose from the thousands in the IFTTT library.
There are recipes to text your husband when you’re a certain distance from the house, email you anything your mom tweets, or flash the lights when someone opens your (sensor-equipped) liquor cabinet at home.
Related: How these 5 startups are reimagining the world
Users cobble together automations using any of the 170 compatible services like Facebook (FB, Tech30), Nest and Fitbit.
The company’s three new apps let you create buttons that trigger automated actions, Do Button, Do Note and Do Camera. The Do Button app lets you create a shortcut on your homescreen that, with one tap, acts as an on/off switch for smart devices or notes your location in a Google spreadsheet. Date night? Tap the button you programmed to lower all the lights in your house. You can create up to three customizable buttons (IFTTT is considering charging for additional ones).
Do Note simplifies any task you do frequently that involves typing out text, like adding items to a shopping list or emailing yourself a reminder. For example, use Do Note to create a button called “Grocery.” Tap it, type “Buy Cheerios” and the note will automatically show up in Evernote. Do Camera does the same for photos, so you can make a button that automatically emails selfies to your three best friends.
Related: Virtual reality on your Facebook feed?
The Do buttons aren’t just cutting down on steps, they’re an early attempt to give people one central way to control all their Internet of Things devices. IFTTT is also turning regular people into programers, even if they don’t know it.
“Everyone in the physical world is a whole lot more of a programmer than they give themselves credit for,” said CEO Linden Tibbets.
The company was founded in 2010 by Linden and his brother Alexander Tibbets. Its users are enthusiastic and have created 19 million recipes so far, but the company wanted to take the product in a direction that was easier to understand.
“IFTTT is really trying to solve the next step, which is how do we help people do what they want with all this connected stuff,” said Tibbets.
He imagines a future in which everything will be connected to the internet and compatible with IFTTT. These new apps are just laying the groundwork for a future operating system.
That’s an ambitious and complicated goal for a very simple service.

Jamb postponed Printing of PhotoCard via @ameborepublik

This is to announce to all Jambites that the board has moved the date to begin reprinting of photocard exam slips for the 2015 UTME until further notice.

This information is coming from a reliable staff of the board, who also disclosed that this year’s photocard printing would be done by only accredited CBT registration centres and JAMB is trying to work out modalities for the smooth deployment of this new system.

UTME 2015 Candidates will therefore be able to print out their exam slips from any accredited CBT centres around their area. You need not go to the centre where you registered for the exam.

The photocard contains vital information to identify the candidate, as well as information on the specific date, venue and time for the candidate’s exam.

If you are a JAMB candidate, you need not waste your transport in visiting any centre today until the announcement of the commencement of the photocard printing has been made.

The Team is on this matter and will promptly announce it here on when the official dates is announced.

There is still time as JAMB has extended the exam date until 9th March so there’s no need to panic.

Keep studying and working hard and God will be by your side on the exam day.

Lenovo slipped ‘Superfish’ malware into laptops

Computer maker Lenovo has been shipping laptops pre packaged with malware that makes you more vulnerable to hackers — all for the sake of serving you advertisements.
Made by a company called “Superfish,” the software is essentially an Internet browser add-on that injects ads onto websites you visit.
Besides taking up space in your Lenovo computer, the add-on is also dangerous because it undermines basic computer security protocols.

That’s because it tampers with a widely-used system of official website certificates. That makes it hard for your computer to recognize a fake bank website, for instance.
It’s a nasty trick — the same one that the in-flight Wi-Fi service Gogo was caught doing last month.
“This is exactly what bad guys do with trojans and other malicious software to trick users to access fake sites to surveil/monitor private communications,” said Kevin Bocek, an executive at cybersecurity company Venafi.
Customers started spotting this on their Lenovo computers in mid-2014.
After facing a fierce backlash by customers and computer security experts this week, Lenovo on Thursday acknowledged as much.
“User feedback was not positive,” so Lenovo stopped preloading the software on new computers in January, a company spokesman said. Lenovo also promised it “will not preload this software in the future” and said it disabled the feature on its servers, which essentially kills the program on everyone’s computer.
The company initially claimed it only included Superfish on “some consumer notebook products shipped in a short window between October and December.” When CNNMoney noted that customers started complaining about this feature earlier than that, Lenovo acknowledged that factory installations of Superfish started back in September.
Lenovo lists 43 different models that were affected, including several of its Flex, E-, G-, S-, U-, Y- and Z-series laptops and several Miix and Yoga tablets.
So, what was the point of the “Superfish Visual Discovery” software? It makes it easier to shop for deals. The program analyzes images you see on the Web and presents similar products that might have lower prices.
Lenovo stressed that the program did not “monitor user behavior” or record user information.
“The relationship with Superfish is not financially significant; our goal was to enhance the experience for users,” the company said in a statement. “We recognize that the software did not meet that goal and have acted quickly and decisively.”
But computer experts say the damage is done.
“They have not only betrayed their customers’ trust, but also put them at increased risk,” said Ken Westin, a security analyst with software maker Tripwire.
To be completely safe, you might have to reinstall a fresh new operating system. Lenovo customers have already paid for Windows in their laptops, so they will have to shell out another $120 for a copy of Windows 8.1.
And if you’re unsure whether your laptop is infected with Superfish, the computer security experts at LastPass developed a tool that tells you so.#ZinoTech

E! News : Wiz Khalifa Throws Birthday Bash for His Absent Son …

Wiz Khalifa was ready to turn up really hard with his son Sebastian ‘The Bash’ Taylor Thomaz for his second birthday, but the thing is, the kid was missing. Taking it to Twitter yesterday, the Taylor Gang rapper shared a few photos of a birthday bash he threw for his now 2-year-old son only to reveal later Sebastian was not present. In the meantime, Amber Rose posted a few videos of their kid, which basically brought the conclusion she didn’t allow Khalifa to spend time with his son on the special day.

Irritated by what he obviously consider to be injustice, Wiz wrote a lengthy stream of consciousness on social media, pointing out the difficulties he has been facing as a father ever since she split from Muva. Offering his help to all the other dads who find themselves in the same unfair position, the rapper got emotional and asked his fans for support. Wiz’s rant comes on the heels of him calling Amber a bad parent due to her wild behavior. By the looks of it, the real drama between these two has just began.

Music: Funmi Praise – Ohun Gbobgo (Everything)

Early Sunday morning in January 2015…

She opened her eyes and beheld another beautiful day, ringing in her head was this new song she just recorded. A sudden burst of emotion; a heart full of gratitude, she knew she had to express it somehow.

“Ohun gbogbo lo le se… Ohun gbogbo lo le se…” Funmi Praise sang as she prep for Sunday service.

How deep the father’s love for a child, she thought to herself. How deep God ‘s love for us that He gave up His only child and through Him manifested His glory and power in mortal men!

She remembered that same power broke the chain of bareness in her life. Even when the doctors said there was a growth in her tube that needed surgery before she can conceive, the God of all possibilities healed her.

Today, Funmi Praise is a joyful mother of children, a wife to a loving husband and a testimony to us that with God, there is no impossibility!

“Ohun Gbogbo (Everything)” was produced by Mr Wols [@Soundhook]. The video to the single will be released in March 2015.

I Can’t Promise Polls Will Hold In March & April- Attahiru Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Attahiru Jega, has said he cannot guarantee if elections will hold in March or not, stating that major part of it still has to do with the issue of security, which only the Military can clarify. Jega appeared before the Senate yesterday and when asked by the Minority Leader, Senator George Akume, to give a clear assurance about the dates of the elections, Jega said;

“I think it is a very difficult question to answer. I have said consistently that there are things under the control of electoral commission and there are things that are not under the control of electoral commission. For things that are under our control, I can give definite and categorical assurances. On what is not under our control, it is futile, it is fruitless and useless to give a definite guarantee on them. I think that question should be directed appropriately. The questions of security, I will leave it, I don’t think I am competent to answer it sufficiently.”

When asked what his response would be if the security agencies requested a further delay, Jega said doing so would be illegal.

“Every Nigerian knows we want elections to hold… within a constitutional time frame.   The security agencies are (made up of) patriotic Nigerians. Let’s give them the benefit of the doubt. We should be fair also to the military. Soldiers are also patriotic Nigerians. I don’t see how anybody will contemplate any extension beyond these six weeks. There is no constitutional grounds upon which you can do that. For us, we work by the constitution, by the law. That is what is guiding us and we should all put the interest of the nation at heart. The human factor is always significant, it is always important but we believe that working together with security and other stakeholders, we should be able to prevent negative human intervention that can create problems.

“I kept saying consistently that INEC is not a security organisation. We are an election management body; so we rely a lot on security to be able to ensure that things are done well and that there is no disruption of the electoral process.

“We have been working very closely with the inter agencies consultative committee on election security and that is why for us, if the service chiefs say that we can’t guarantee security, give us more time, what is the alternative security arrangements ?

“If we consulted with the stakeholders and we cannot find an answer, what happens? We are going to use close to 700, 000 ad hoc staff. We can’t send people to the field in that kind of a situation.

“Our prayer is that in the next six weeks, there will be significant improvement in the security situation for us to hold the elections all over this country in a very secure environment.

“There are certain questions that we are not really competent to answer. Certain questions should be directed to the military; they can answer them better.”

REVEALED: Why ISIS And Boko Haram Might Never Team Up

Boko Haram and ISIS insurgent groups have been described as two of the world’s most notorious insurgent groups. A new reports however shows that the two groups might never work together over Racism. ISIS has reportedly started operating in Northern Africa and there have been worries maybe someday the Syria based group might want to team up with Nigerian based Boko-Haram as they groups carry out similar operations and are funded by almost the same ideology.

According to NBC news, United States intelligence officers have revealed that the two groups might never be able to team up and work together as racism might prevent them from unity.
“The Arab world is incredibly racist,” explained a U.S. intelligence official. “They don’t see black Africans as equivalent to them.”

ISIS may show “affinity” with Boko Haram, said the official, “but they stop short of allegiance.” Moreover, said the official, while Boko Haram has in the past year released videos to show “affiliation” with groups like ISIS, there’s no evidence of either group sending members to fight with the other. And while Boko Haram has praised ISIS, and shown the ISIS flag in videos, ISIS has not reciprocated.

“There are still questions of the ISIS view of Boko Haram and Nigeria,” said the official. “But Boko Haram does not operate in sync with ISIS. The caliphates are separate.” There was concern last October when Boko Haram declared its caliphate that the two might team up, but there’s no indication that’s happening, said the official.

I belong to Jesus Party & not PDP or APC – Pastor Adefarasin

Founder and Senior Pastor of the House on the Rock churches, Pastor Paul Adefarasin, has slammed men of God, who are part of political campaigns ahead of the 2015 elections. The 53-year-old was reviewing last week’s screening of the movie Selma in the church.

Speaking before his Sunday sermon yesterday, Adefarasin told his congregation: “I must say to you that pastors who join in these political campaigns are not wise.”

The articulate preacher also insisted that “House on the Rock is not a partisan organisation or a political platform”, while maintaining that the pulpit is not the best avenue to take a stand or advise members on which party or candidates they must vote for.

“I don’t belong to APC and PDP. I don’t belong to any political party. I belong to Jesus party. I am interested in God’s agenda in Nigeria,” he added.

He also flayed the manner in which some of the political campaigns have been conducted, describing the desperation from the two leading parties as “sad and sorry”.

Social Media is a Blessing to our Country – Prof Osibanjo

After two months on Twitter, the account of the Vice Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) has been verified.

The confirmation of this process for the account, @ProfOsinabjo, came through at exactly 4pm on Friday afternoon.

Speaking about his experience so far on social media, the Running Mate to General Muhammadu Buhari, admitted that he had followed online conversations passively for a long time but had to get fully involved when he was picked to join the APC Presidential Ticket.

“I consider myself a Digital Immigrant, while all those born in the Computer Age are the Natives,” he said.

“It took a while to get used to it, but I have always known social media to be a very useful tool for engagement, enlightenment and entertainment. Its huge value to Nigeria and the nation we hope to build cannot be overestimated and I’m grateful for how I have been so well received. It has been extremely interesting.”

Continue below to see how the men have reacted.

What Ekiti Governor, Fayose said;
“The moment Obasanjo is not the one controlling a house, he will want the house pulled down but this time around, he has failed.”
“Obasanjo has always benefitted from the misfortune of others and he is living with the impression that he is the wisest person in the whole world.
“When Murtala Mohammed was murdered in 1976, Obasanjo was the beneficiary.

“In 1993, he said the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Chief MKO Abiola was not the messiah Nigeria needed. Instead of Obasanjo to join the clamour for the actualisation of Abiola’s mandate, Obasanjo was canvassing for an Interim National Government, which he schemed to head.

“MKO Abiola died in detention in 1997 (1998) and Obasanjo became the beneficiary of his (Abiola) death.
“Despite the fact that it was the blood of MKO Abiola that Obasanjo marched on to power, not even a street was named after Abiola throughout Obasanjo’s eight years as president.

“Today, Obasanjo is fighting President Jonathan, the man who has done what he failed to do for Abiola, the Yoruba people and Nigerians as a whole when he was president for eight years, simply because he does not want anyone to equal his record as Nigeria’s longest serving president.

“President Jonathan has made it impossible for Obasanjo to run his presidency for him and for this reason, he is supporting Buhari, hoping that he will be the one to nominate ministers for Buhari if he becomes president.”

What Buruji Kashamu said;

“Let us not be deceived. As well-intentioned as Chief Obasanjo’s homily may seem, it is all lies. It is an open show of his manipulative skills and his well-known egoistic craving for power and relevance.”

“I urge Nigerians to be wise and conduct their independent investigations on claims by politicians,” he said as he called for his arrest and investigation.
And Bode George….
“Baba has served his own term, he has played his roles. I don’t want to conclude that his life would end up like Saul in the Bible.

“I will also want to call on our Obas to talk to Baba that he should remain at that pinnacle of respect because it is becoming too personal. No human being is perfect.”

“If Baba had attended the Council of state meeting in Abuja, he would have understood why the elections were postponed,” he said.

Obasanjo Tears PDP Membership card

Ward 11 chairman, Usman Oladunjoye tearing Obasanjo’s PDP membership card and the torn card
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday left his guests at his Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta with bated breath when he tore his Peoples Democratic Party membership card in their presence.

The guests, who are leaders of the PDP from Obasanjo’s ward around his former residence in Ita Eko, where he registered, visited the ex-president to express their concern with his recent utterances against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan and what he considered as the President’s role in the postponement of the general elections from February to March.

Obasanjo had alleged on Saturday that Jonathan had a “grand plan” to scuttle democracy in the country through the poll shift, accusing the President of trying to win the presidential poll “through hook or crook.”

The guests in Abeokuta had told the former Head of State that they had come to plead with him to stop his criticisms of the incumbent president.

They also informed him of the feelers that they were getting that the leaders of the party were planning to expel him from the party.

Obasanjo asked his guests if they were with their PDP membership card, which some of them produced.

He subsequently asked for his own, which someone brought to him.

He then directed the leader of the team to tear the card in shreds, telling the visitors that he was no longer a member of the ruling party.

The former president had last year resigned his membership of the party, when he was the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, arguing that he could no longer be in the same party and be led in the South-West by someone he referred to as a confirmed drug baron.

Many ‘children taking risks online’

Girls are more likely to use the internet for socialising than boys
More than half of children in the UK (57%) have done something “risky” or anti-social online, a poll of 2,000 11- to 16-year-olds suggests.

Almost two-thirds (62%) told the BBC Learning poll they felt under pressure from others to act in this way.
Activities included sharing unsuitable videos or pictures of themselves or saying nasty things about others and looking at unsuitable websites.

Some 20% said they had put pressure on someone else to act negatively online.
The research was commissioned as part of a new online safety campaign – Be Smart – timed to coincide with Internet Safety Day on 10 February.

Online bullying
Nearly half, some 47%, said they had looked at something online that they thought their parents would not like them to see.
While 14% admitted to sending pictures of themselves, or others, that their parents would not like them to share.
And nearly one in 10 had signed up to websites or services not meant for their age group.
Among 14- to 16-year-olds, almost three-quarters (72%) said they had experienced or witnessed online bullying.

What is inappropriate? BBC talks to 11-16 year olds about their online activity
Andrew Tomlinson, the BBC’s executive producer responsible for digital and media literacy, said: “Internet safety is becoming increasingly important as more families get online and children start to use tablets, computers and smartphones earlier in their lives.

“For the third year in succession, BBC Learning is supporting the aims of Safer Internet Day with a campaign of its own.
“Be Smart is giving young people the chance to speak for themselves about the pressures they face on social networking sites.”
Meanwhile, a mobile app is to be launched later this year in the UK which will give parents remote access to everything their children get up to on their phones.
It will allow parents to track their child’s movements, monitor text messages and vet the websites visited. #ZinoTech

Microsoft has released a patch to close a bug exploited by hackers, who targeted US military and government networks.

Microsoft has released a patch to close a bug exploited by hackers, who targeted US military and government networks.
The flaw was used to compromise Windows PCs that visited sites seeded with other malware created by the group.
Popular news site Forbes was one victim unwittingly enrolled into the cyber-espionage campaign.
Security systems on US military networks ultimately foiled attempts to steal data, said one expert.
“It’s fairly brazen for a Chinese cyber-espionage group to use such a public site,” said John Hultquist from iSight Partners, which said it had traced the attack back to a group called Codoso.
Data grabbing
Forbes’ site was compromised via a software add-on, or widget, that made use of a version of Adobe’s Flash software, which in turn was vulnerable to an exploit believed to have been created by Codoso.
This was paired with a separate vulnerability that the hackers used to takeover Windows machines.
The booby-trapped widget was present on the Forbes site between 28 November and 1 December, 2014, said a spokeswoman for the news site.
“Forbes took immediate actions to remediate the incident,” said the spokeswoman.
“The investigation has found no indication of additional or ongoing compromise nor any evidence of data exfiltration.”
No group had claimed responsibility for the attack, she added.
Mr Hultquist told the BBC that iSight had been tracking Codoso since 2010 and was confident it was behind the attack.
Additional intelligence about its origin has been provided by security company Invincea which spotted machines infected via the Forbes exploit on military networks.
Once it took hold on a Windows machine the Codoso malware sought to log what software the machine ran and to map networks to find other machines to compromise, Mr Hultquist explained
“It’s all about land and expand,” he said.
“They want to get in and stay in and be as persistent as possible and gather intelligence over a long period of time.”
No data was stolen from official US networks using this exploit, said Norm Laudermilch from Invincea.
However, he said, analysis of the malware showed that it had been used to get at various other sites and the sheer number of people visiting Forbes would suggest a lot had been caught out by it.
Adobe patched the Flash bug on 9 December and Microsoft has now moved to close the other loophole found and exploited by Codoso.
Mr Hultquist said the evidence suggested Codoso was no common-or-garden cybercrime group.
“There are different motivations for hacker groups, but this one is about espionage and that, by definition, is not about making money,” he said.
China was not alone in setting up such groups and trying to gather data by hacking, he added.
“We’ve seen dozens of them,” he said.
“It’s a very inexpensive way to get an advantage over your adversaries.”

Not in front of the telly: Warning over ‘listening’ TV

Not in front of the telly: Warning over ‘listening’ TV

Samsung said personal information could be scooped up by the Smart TV

Samsung is warning customers about discussing personal information in front of their smart television set.

The warning applies to TV viewers who control their Samsung Smart TV using its voice activation feature.

When the feature is active, such TV sets “listen” to what is said and may share what they hear with Samsung or third parties, it said.

Privacy campaigners said the technology smacked of the telescreens, in George Orwell’s 1984, which spied on citizens.

Data sharing
The warning came to light via a story in online news magazine the Daily Beast which published an excerpt of a section of Samsung’s privacy policy for its net-connected Smart TV sets. These record what is said when a button on a remote control is pressed.

Smart TV owner Peter Kent: “It makes me think twice”
The policy explains that the TV set will be listening to people in the same room to try to spot when commands or queries are issued via the remote. It goes on to say: “If your spoken words include personal or other sensitive information, that information will be among the data captured and transmitted to a third party.”

Corynne McSherry, an intellectual property lawyer for the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) which campaigns on digital rights issues, told the Daily Beast that the third party was probably the company providing speech-to-text conversion for Samsung.

She added: “If I were the customer, I might like to know who that third party was, and I’d definitely like to know whether my words were being transmitted in a secure form.”

Soon after, an activist for the EFF circulated the policy statement on Twitter comparing it to George Orwell’s description of the telescreens in his novel 1984 that listen to what people say in their homes.

Privacy experts wondered if the grabbed audio was protected as it was sent for analysis
In response to the widespread sharing of its policy statement, Samsung has issued a statement to clarify how voice activation works. It emphasised that the voice recognition feature is activated using the TV’s remote control.

It said the privacy policy was an attempt to be transparent with owners in order to help them make informed choices about whether to use some features on its Smart TV sets, adding that it took consumer privacy “very seriously”.

Samsung said: “If a consumer consents and uses the voice recognition feature, voice data is provided to a third party during a requested voice command search. At that time, the voice data is sent to a server, which searches for the requested content then returns the desired content to the TV.”

It added that it did not retain voice data or sell the audio being captured. Smart-TV owners would always know if voice activation was turned on because a microphone icon would be visible on the screen, it said.

The third party handling the translation from speech to text is a firm called Nuance, which specialises in voice recognition, Samsung has confirmed to the BBC.

Samsung is not the first maker of a smart, net-connected TV to run into problems with the data the set collects. In late 2013, a UK IT consultant found his LG TV was gathering information about his viewing habits.

Publicity about the issue led LG to create a software update which ensured data collection was turned off for those who did not want to share information #ZinoTech
